6 Reasons you should consider a Metal Roof

When it comes time to replace the roof on your house, consider a metal roof. Harbor Roofing and Siding is installing more and more metal roofing.reasons-to-consider-a-metal-roof-wilmington-nc

Here are some points to consider.

LASTING

When Harbor Roofing puts on a metal roof, it should last the life of the house. That’s right, no more roof worries for the rest of your life. It keeps out water, sheds snow easily and survives high wind much better than other roofing materials. The paint is usually warranted for 30 years, but it will last much longer. Metal does not rot. Insects can’t attack it.

WEIGHT

Metal roofing is lightweight. When the snow starts piling up, that’s an important consideration. Even without snow, lightweight roofing means the supporting structure of your roof is under less stress.

Some kinds of metal roofing can be installed right over your existing roof. We may not need to tear off the asphalt shingles. That saves you money.

FAST INSTALL

Because metal roofing comes in large sheets, it takes us less time to put a metal roof on compared to other roofing materials. That’s less money you have to spend on labor costs.

FIRE PROTECTION

The wildfires raging across the South recently destroyed many homes. Metal roofing will not save your house if it is the direct line of a giant wildfire. But, the metal will not catch fire from sparks or embers from a fire miles away. Metal roofing as the highest fire protection rating insurance companies can give.

MORE INSULATION

The metal itself has a very poor insulation rating. But, the installation process puts a space between the metal and your roof deck. This dead air space is a pretty good insulating barrier. It’s especially good in summer as the metal reflects away some of the sunlight.

SOUND

A metal roof does transmit a lot more sound than other roofing materials. But we find that many people actually like to hear the sound of rain on a metal roof. They say it is soothing and puts them right to sleep.

I’m trying to decide what kind of roofing I should get. I didn’t know that metal was such a great material! It would be so nice to be able to install it and not have to worry about performing maintenance on it for a long time.

My husband has been wanting to get our roof replaced for a while now and I wanted to see what options we could look at for a new look. I like that you mention how metal roofing is a light weight but durable to snow which could save us money in the long run. I also really liked how you mention the fast installation since the large sheets are easy to put up. Thank you for the great advice, it really helped me determine what I want for the new roof.

Thanks for your comment on how metal roofs are more lightweight than others. Where I live, we get a lot of snow in the winter and we want the safety of metal roofing when the snow piles up. My husband and I are looking into metal roofing because like you said, it normally lasts the life of a house.
